Web Content Policy

Lindsay Holy Family School Web Content Policy

The Lindsay Holy Family School Board strives to maintain an environment that promotes responsible conduct in all online network activities by staff and students. All employees and students are expected to adhere to the policy stated herein. The following material is a statement of the Lindsay Holy Family School≠s Web Content Policy.

1. School Web Site.

a. The School will establish a Web site. Material appropriate for placement on the School Web site includes: school information, teacher or class information, student projects, and student extracurricular organization information. Personal non-educational information will not be allowed on the School Web site.

b. The School Board will designate a Web Manager, responsible for maintaining the official School Web site and monitoring class, teacher, staff, student and extracurricular Web pages. The Web Manager will develop style and content guidelines for official school Web materials and develop procedure for the placement and removal of such material. All official material originating from the school posted on the school Web site must be approved through a process established by the Web Manager.

2. Teacher Web Pages. Teachers may establish Web pages for use with class activities or that provides a resource for other teachers. Teachers will be responsible for maintaining their class or educational resource sites. Teacher Web pages will not be considered official material, but will be developed in such a manner as to reflect well upon the school. All teacher web pages will be reviewed by the Web Manager for compliance with this web content policy before being posted for viewing by the general public.

3. Staff Web Pages. Staff may develop Web pages that provide a resource for others. Staff will be responsible for maintaining their resource sites. Staff Web pages will not be considered official material, but will be developed in a manner as to reflect well upon the school. All staff web pages will be reviewed by the Web Manager for compliance with this web content policy before being posted for viewing by the general public.

4. Student Web Pages.

a. Students may create a web site as part of a class activity. Material presented on a student class activity. The Web site must meet the educational objectives of the class activity.

b. With the approval of the principal or Web Manager, and a signed statement from a parent or guardian, students may establish personal Web pages. Material presented in the student’s personal Web site must be related to the student’s educational and career preparation activities.

c. It will not be considered a violation of a student’s right to free speech to require removal of material that fails to meet established educational objectives or that is in violation of a provision of the Internet Safety Policy or school policy for code of conduct. However, student material may not be removed on the basis of disagreement with the views expressed by the student.

d. Student Web pages must include the following notice: “This is a student Web page. Opinions expressed on this page shall not be attributed to Lindsay Holy Family School.≈

e. Student Web pages will be removed at the end of the school year unless special arrangements are made. A notice will be provided to students prior to such removal.

f. All student web pages will be reviewed by the Web Manager for compliance with this web content policy before being posted for viewing by the general public.

5. Extracurricular Organization Web Pages.

a. With the approval of the principal, extracurricular organizations may establish Web pages. Material presented on the organization Web page must relate specifically to organization activities.

b. Organization Web pages must include the following notice: “This is a student extracurricular organization Web page. Opinions expressed on this page shall not be attributed to Lindsay Holy Family School.≈

c. All organization web pages will be reviewed by the Web Manager for compliance with this web content policy before being posted for viewing by the general public.

6. Student Information

a. The following standards will be followed regarding the disclosure of student information on school web sites: * First name and last initial only are used to label student work. * Pictures are never labeled with student names. * Student addresses, phone, parent name or other personal contact information will not be allowed on the web site, unless specifically released by a parent or guardian.

b. A parent or guardian will sign one statement regarding whether their child≠s photo can be displayed on the Internet. This will govern the content for the entire school year unless a change in directive is issued by the parent or guardian.

Parents shall approve the following separate directives regarding school pictures: * Whether their child can appear in an individual unlabeled picture on the Internet. * Whether their child can appear in a group picture of 2-5 children on the Internet. * Whether their child can appear in a group picture of more than 5 children on the Internet.

c. Student work will be included on a web page only with parental permission. A parent or guardian will sign one statement regarding whether their child≠s work can be displayed on the Internet. It shall govern the content for the entire school year (unless a change in directive is issued by the parent or guardian.)

7. Web Page Requirements

a. Lindsay Holy Family School≠s Internet Safety Policy will govern material placed on the Web.

b. Web Pages shall not:

i. Contain personal contact information about students beyond that permitted by the school and parents.

ii. Display photographs or videos of any identifiable individual without a signed model release. Release forms for student work and photos must be signed by their parent or guardian.

iii. Contain copyrighted or trademarked material belonging to others unless written permission to display such material has been obtained from the owner. There will be no assumption that the publication of copyrighted material on a web site is within the fair use exemption.

c. Material placed on the web site is expected to meet academic standards of proper spelling, grammar, and accuracy of information.

d. Students may retain the copyright on the material they create that is posted on the Web. School employees may retain the copyright on material they create and post if appropriate under school policies.

e. All Web pages should have a link at the bottom of the page that will help users find their way to the appropriate home page.

f. Back-up copies of Web pages that are made are the responsibility of the creators of the pages.

Student Material Sign Off Policy

The Lindsay Holy Family School Web policy for student material use, including student photos, student work, curriculum materials, is stated below.  This list is not all-inclusive.

  • No photos will ever be labeled with names
  • First name labels only on school work or projects
  • Last names of students will never appear on the web pages
  • Lindsay Holy Family School is not responsible for damages incurred by World Wide Web users viewing the Lindsay Holy Family School web site.
  • The site will not contain personal contact information about students.
  • The site will not contain copyrighted or trademarked material belonging to others unless written permission to display such material has been obtained from the owner.
